What are the best school districts in and around Indianapolis?
We're relocating to Indianapolis fairly soon for work and need to decide which area. The surrounding areas are also possibilities.

Answer 1 :
Carmel Schools are by far the best.
Answer 2 :
IPS is not that good at all Try the suburbs Brownsburg, Carmel, Fishers, Noblesville, Greenwood, Southport are a few, If not try the local Township schools. Perry, Wayne,Franklin etc... Good Luck :)
Answer 3 :
Lawrence Township in Marion County has good elementary magnet schools: Indian Creek for science and technology and Forest Glen for international/language studies. There are two high schools in Lawrence Twp., Lawrence North and Lawrence Central and as of next fall, two middle schools, Belzer and Fall Creek Valley. Washington Township in Marion County has several good elementary and middle schools, but only one huge high school, North Central. Carmel, a mostly wealthy suburb to the north, has had a reputation for having very good schools, but recently there have been a some troubling incidents involving a few high school students. These incidents do not reflect on the academic quality of the schools, though. Other school districts to consider include Zionsville, Hamilton Southeastern, Plainfield, Brownsburg, Avon, and Pendleton. I am not so familiar with the schools on the south side, though. Cathedral High School, a private Catholic college-prep high school on the east side of Indianapolis is excellent. You need not be Catholic to attend. However, Cathedral can be very expensive unless you qualify for financial aid. Brebeuf, a Jesuit high school on the NW side of Indianapolis, is another good private high school, and there are many good parochial schools, too. Other private schools worth mentioning are Park Tudor, University High School, and the International School.

Stay away from IPS first of all. They're terrible. Try to stay away from Warren and Pike also. There's a lot of violence in those areas and a lot of "people" who think they're all that. These are the Eastside and Northwestside. I'd probably go to Washington township, Carmel or Fishers. These are the Northern parts of Indy. They are stereotypically called the wealthy areas. But they are also the friendliest and pleasing to the eye. Everywhere else Southport, Greenwood, Avon etc aren't bad either. Just stay away from IPS, Pike and Warren. If you had asked a few years ago, I'd say go to Wayne township because I went there and during the time I was in school (2003-2008) there was a lot of growth in our area (Westside). But a lot of IPS integration in our township has caused "problems". This is most likely due to a dress code implemented in 2007 causing IPS students living borderline IPS, township regions to register at other schools. STAY AWAY FROM IPS! And Warren and Pike if you can...
