About anybody work in the Indianapolis Zoo

Anybody work in the Indianapolis Zoo?
I want to work in the marine part of the zoo. What college degree should I have? I especially would love to work as a dolphin trainer. Would it help if I volenteered there? I live about three hours north of the zoo but if it helps Ill come down during the summer? Is there a certain age you have to be? Any info is apreciated thank ya
Zoology - 1 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I don't work at a zoo, but from what I've seen volunteering there might help you get a job there. Though not all zoos/aquariums/marine parks require degrees, it'd probably be a good to get one. These jobs are hard to get into. So it'd be good to get as much hands-on experience, training, and education as you can. Talk with a trainer/keeper at the zoo for what's required to work there, colleges, what it's like to work there, etc. Here are some sites, I hope the help. Good Luck. http://www.indyzoo.com/content.aspx?cid=269 Zoo Teen Program Have you ever wanted to work in a zoo? Would you like something "wild" to do next year? The Indianapolis Zoo's Zoo Teen Program is an exciting way for students, ages 14* to 18 years, to explore career opportunities, meet new friends, gain customer service skills, and much more! ..... There are two exciting levels offered in the Zoo Teen Program - Explorers and Specialists. For those just starting out in the program, we offer many Explorer opportunities to develop experience. For those with previous Zoo Teen experience, they can become a Specialist in an Explorer position or in two exciting additional positions specifically for Specialists. ******** The following Explorer positions are for first year Zoo Teen Candidates. ....... Dolphin Demonstration Attendant- Develop public interaction skills while seating guests at our dynamic dolphin demonstrations. Zoo Teens help to keep the Dolphin Pavilion clean before and after demonstrations by clearing splashed water from the public decks and viewing windows. Zoo Teens will not have any direct contact with the dolphins. http://www.indyzoo.com/content.aspx?CID=668 Animal Care Internships Marine Mammal Area- Filled for Summer 2008! One of the most diverse marine mammal collections in the US, species in this area include the Atlantic bottlnose dolphin, California sea lion, Harbor seal, Pacific walrus, and Polar bear. The newly renovated dolphin pavilion with its underwater walkthrough viewing tubes and Atlantic coastline demonstration area make it one of the most unique anywhere. Conservation projects for this area include Project Dolphin and Project Walrus, SSPs for the Polar bear, as well as maintaining the SSP studbook for the Pacific Walrus. Intern Applicants must be SCUBA Certified to qualify for the Marine Mammals Area. http://www.indyzoo.com/content.aspx?cid=745 Dolphin trainer/ Zookeeper http://www.seaworld.org/career-resources/info-books/zoo-careers/starting-zoological-career.htm CATCH 22? 1. To get a job working with animals, you need experience with animals. This bit of truth seems to create a frustrating circle. You need experience to get a job, but you can't get experience unless you have a job, right? Well, yes and no. VOLUNTEER 1. To begin a career caring for animals, you should be prepared to start with a volunteer or entry-level position. Call your nearest zoo or aquatic park and ask for details on becoming a volunteer (also called a docent or intern). Humane societies, animal rehabilitation clinics, and some veterinary clinics also welcome volunteers. Although your duties with a humane society or veterinary clinic will most likely involve working indirectly with animals (cleaning cages and preparing food), volunteer duties at a zoo or aquatic park range from filing or answering phones to being trained to make educational presentations or feed newly hatched birds. Volunteering your time shows that you're serious about your commitment to animals. Develop a reputation for being an eager, cooperative, hard-working person, and your volunteer effort may help you get a job in the future. Supervisors are often asked to give character references for volunteers who've worked for them. http://www.seaworld.org/career-resources/info-books/zoo-careers/training.htm 3.ANIMAL TRAINER รข€¢ Education: Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred in psychology, biological sciences, or drama; in some cases, scuba certification http://www.theswig.com/FAQ.htm http://www.dolphintrainer.com/career_guide.htm http://www.imata.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=20&Itemid=39&limit=1&limitstart=2 http://www.spawar.navy.mil/sandiego/technology/mammals/interns.html http://www.sandiegozoo.org/jobs/keeper_faq.html http://www.sandiegozoo.org/kids/jobs_animal_care.html http://www.aza.org/ForEveryone/Careers/ Requirements The conservation and scientific programs in zoos and aquariums have become highly technical and specialized. Although practical experience with animals may sometimes be substituted for academic training, most entry-level keeper positions now require a four-year college degree. Training in animal science, zoology, marine biology, conservation biology, wildlife management, and animal behavior is preferred. Curatorial, research, and conservation positions typically require advanced academic degrees. Students wishing to pursue animal-related careers are encouraged to carefully review the curriculum of the schools they wish to attend, as some programs focus more on a zoological application than others. Students who are interested in the business side of zoo and aquarium operations should concentrate on skills related to a particular area of expertise, such as accounting, public relations, marketing, personnel management, etc. Whatever your career goal, guidance counselors can offer assistance in determining the most appropriate course of study. http://www.aazk.org/zoo_career.php College http://www.seaworld.org/career-resources/info-books/zoo-careers/finding-a-school.htm http://www.seaworld.org/career-resources/info-books/zoo-careers/school-&-university-programs.htm http://www.wonderferret.com/zooed/ http://www.moorparkcollege.edu/current_students/teaching_zoo/FAQs.shtml 16. Will the EATM program give me an advantage over any other schools or programs? .....Many of our students want to train marine mammals - we send graduates all over the world to do this. Especially to the Caribbean - a new Dolphin Program hired 4 graduates in the summer of 2001, and more in 2002, 2003 & 2004....... Others are with various Marine Mammal facilities in the U.S. and abroad. Graduates from the class of 2004 are working training Guide Dogs in California, with marine mammals at Sea World Orlando, Sea Life Marine Park in Hawaii, Six Flags Marine World in Vallejo, California - and many other facilities. Graduates from the class of 2008 have jobs at - Sea World San Diego, the U.S. Navy training sea lions, Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut, Universal Studios Hollywood - and many other places. EATM graduates get jobs everywhere..... 28. What are some helpful hints if I want to work with animals? Do some research and explore the type of position you want. Some positions may need specialized training in certain areas. For example, if you want to work at Sea World, they will need you to pass a swim test, and be SCUBA certified. Anyone who wants to work with marine mammals, should plan on getting SCUBA certified. Most marine mammal facilities will not hire you unless you show them a SCUBA certification card (and be a decent swimmer). http://www.thefutureschannel.com/dockets/realworld/teaching_zoo/ http://www.amazon.com/Kicked-Bitten-Scratched-Lessons-Trainers/dp/0670037680 http://www.moorparkcollege.edu/current_students/teaching_zoo/other_programs.shtml

About What do Chinese think about Chinese immigrants from Indianapolis working for 50 cent party

What do Chinese think about Chinese immigrants from Indianapolis working for 50 cent party?
Several Chinese immigrants in Indianapolis have lost their jobs in the ongoing economic recession and they have joined the 50 cent party to meet their expenses. Their job description requires them to attack the United States and glorify China by writing pro-CCP anti-west mind manipulating propaganda on Yahoo Answers. What do Chinese think of this?
China - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Some Chinese put race over the country. So even if they have got US citizenship they would rather be "nation-traitor" than "race-traitor" On top of that since most of new immigrants have their mind been corrupted by the CCP propaganda into believing that CCP and China are synonyms, it makes the problem still more complex. US should have a mind sanitizer and quarantine facility before granting citizenship to the immigrants from the Banana Republic.
Answer 2 :
I think they'd be better off learning to change tires and working for a pit crew at the Indianapolis 500. But you know how it is... they've been "semi-Westernized into a capitalist prima dona mindset," and most certainly wouldn't want to get their hands dirty doing any honest work. BTW: For a "modern country with the second largest economy" it seems odd that they don't have any Formula One team yet...
Answer 3 :
That scenario might explain the guy who calls himself "Abe Lincoln" on this forum. He claims he lives in Chicago. Of course, maybe he still has that part time job at McDonalds on South Western Ave.
Answer 4 :
i need proof that says what you say is true. i need a part time job.

Answer 1 :
I don't know of any place that will let you work at 14. Most places you have to be 15 or older.
Answer 2 :
You'll have to stick to things like babysitting, paper routes, pet walking, and odd jobs....fast food places will hire you at 15. Don't knock babysitting - if you are good you can make 10 bucks an hour and once the kids get to bed you can study.

Answer 1 :
sure,fstfoods,
Answer 2 :
try a pizza company usually they will hire 15 year olds as long as they have a work permit
Answer 3 :
You can always try a fast food restaurant, like McDonald's or Burger King. You could mow your neighborhood's lawns weekly and start a business. Usually you get $15 a lawn, but that's still money. There are many things to choose from, just don't do something that you don't want to do.
Answer 4 :
While waiting for the right job to come around why don't you try writing some niche content and make some money via Google Adsense or Yahoo Publisher Network. Both are pay per click programs. Check out this case study https://www.google.com/adsense/askthebuilder It's about Askthebuilder.com earning nearly $30,000 a month with Google Adsense. Create sites via free hosting. This way you need not invest any money. Just your valuable time to create websites. See one of my profitable site at http://www.wareprise.com You may not get checks almost immediately but with the right methods and hard work, it's definitely a good source of passive income which will come sooner or later. If you need more details on ways to work from home, there are some good information and articles from this site. http://earncash.50webs.com
Answer 5 :
Try some of our Museums they always need access point people.

About do anyone know of a dentist that does free or low cost work in Indianapolis

Do anyone know of a dentist that does free or low cost work in Indianapolis?
Dental - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
This would be the best place you could go: Indiana University School of Dentistry 1121 West Michigan Street Indianapolis, IN 46202 (317) 274-7957
Answer 2 :
Just a warning when looking for a cheap dentist. You usually get what you pay for and this is especially true in dentistry. There is usually a reason why the doctor is doing work with little to no compensation and that reason is usually not because they are a saint. It might be better to pay a little more up front for dental work and know you are doing what is best for you then recieving free or low cost work and then having to pay somebody later to fix the 'free' work.
Answer 3 :
Contact your local or state dental association and and see if there are any dentists who provide free or reduced cost care for low-income, disabled or senior patients. Call your local health department and ask about health centers that provide dental care for free or on a sliding scale. Your local United Way may also be aware of such a clinic. In some areas, you can reach them now by dialing 2-1-1 for "non-emergency information." Go to a dental school, if there is one near you, for reduced costs. Check http://www.toothwoman.net to see if low-cost or free dental services are available near you. Check http://bphc.hrsa.gov and choose "Find a Health Center" to see if there is a low-cost clinic near you. Check http://www.nfdh.org/DDS.html to see if your state has a "Donated Dental Services" program. D.D.S. is designed to locate dentists who will give free care to patients who are financially compromised due to medical problems. This is a process that will take a couple of months to get your information and then arrange for someone to see you. Not all states have D.D.S. programs.
Answer 4 :
Go to a dental school clinic. They normally only charge for the cost of materials. The dental students are supervised by a faculty member.

About which hospital is the best to work at in Indianapolis

Which hospital is the best to work at in Indianapolis?
I am a nurse relocating to the Indianapolis area and am looking at job opportunties at the area hospitals. I know I am narrowing the field of people able to answer, but which is the best hospital to work at ?....with regard to pay scale, area, and hospital reputation? Looking to settling down in the northern suburbs. I am a nurse specializing in Labor, Delivery, and Maternal/Newborn Care.

Answer 1 :
THAT IS SOO WEIRD, i live in Indianapolis, i live right outside of Broad Ripple! Well i was born at St.Vincents They are SO great! My friends mom has breast cancer, and she goes there and they are SO great! I wouldn't work at Mehodist because i got in a car wreck with some of my friends in May, someone hit a red light. Well anyway we were bruised and i had to get an x-ray, the people were nice they just were VERY slow! we got to the hospital at 11:30 pm and didnt leave until 2:10 am!! More than half the time we were just sitting in bed!
Answer 2 :
It all depends on what your specialty is or what you want to get into. Methodist has everything, but is not my favorite place. I worked at St Francis and absolutely hated it. I am not big on letting religion dictate medical care. Wishard is a good if you like trauma, but you also get a lot of indigent patients. I worked at IU and really liked it. It is a smaller hospital and in my opinion the physicians there are very personable, but July (when the new residents start) can be kind of strenuous. The VA hospital in Indy is nice. There is a wide variety of patients and specialties provided. They just opened a Poly-trauma center for the people hurt in Iraq. The VA benefits and retirement are hard to beat. There are also some smaller hospitals north of Indianapolis that are nice. Most places in Carmel are very nice and good patient population, and Riverview in Nobelsville is a very nice facility. Hope this helps.
Answer 3 :
I'm no longer in the profession, but your field may narrow down the choices. If you want to stay in the north St. Vincent or Community North are a couple of considerations. The IUPUI campus offers several choices (Riley Children's, IU Med Center, Wishard & VA) also, but it's close to downtown so you'd have a bit of a drive. Most of the med-pros I know like St.V.
Answer 4 :
Downtown Methodist is THE big trauma Indianapolis Hospital. Riley is THE best children's Hospital. St. Francis is a great general hospital, where lots of babies are born.. including mine.
Answer 5 :
methodist hospital.
Answer 6 :
Methodist is under alot of heat right now for accidently killing nicu babies and paralyzing a women with morphine during child birth (would not want to be a nurse there) but are known for their heart/cath center St. Vincents (carmel or 86th st) are good RIley's is a good Children's hospital (for children born with serious diseases) WIshard Hosp is our "state funded" hosp. It is large and has a wonderful trama center There are 4 Community Hospitals (N, S, E, W) that are wayy smaller) IU hospital is very tech. advanced St. Vincents also has a children's hospital, specialty rehab hosp, women's hosp (labor & del) I used to work in the pharmacy at Methodist. They own IU and RIley, also. They have good pay, shift differential, matched 401k (20 percent I think) and paid holidays and have flexible schedules (1st, 2nd, 3rd shift)
